VEHICLE CARE
15-10
Moving Your Vehicle Only After Starting the Engine
Move your vehicle only after having started the engine.
Driving the vehicle downhill using the downgrade slope without run-
ning the engine might cause an accident.
WARNING
Parking Downhill
After firmly applying the park brake, set the gearshift lever in
Reverse for the vehicle with manual transmission or set the
gearshift lever in
P
for vehicle with automatic transmission.
Place wheel chocks under the wheels.
CAUTION
Parking Uphill
After firmly applying the park brake, set the gearshift lever in
first gear for vehicle with manual transmission or set the gear-
shift lever in
P
for vehicle with automatic transmission.
Place wheel chocks under the wheels.
CAUTION
When Parking or Stopping in An Enclosed Place
When parking or stopping in an enclosed place, turn off the
engine.
Leaving the engine running in an enclosed place, in a garage or in-
doors or in other areas with no air circulation, might result in death
from carbon monoxide poisoning.
WARNING
Things To Watch For When Backing Up
When backing up your vehicle, always make sure that there
are no children or other obstacles behind the car.
Driving in the Rain
When it is raining the road surface becomes slippery and your
tire-to-road traction is reduced, so you should drive more care-
fully than usual.
If you travel at a high speed on a wet road, your tires might not be in
constant contact with the road; if your tires float, your vehicle starts
hydroplaning. You might lose control of your steering and brakes.
CAUTION
After driving through a puddle of water, or after a car wash,
apply your brake pedal lightly several times while moving
slowly to confirm that your brakes work normally before get-
ting on the road.
