Another situation involves cutting rolled materials which have a backing that is not cut. These materials
(vinyl, HTV, rhinestone flock, etc.) can be cut on the cutting mat or cut by directly inserting the materials into
the Force. Here are the factors which will directly affect the
Cutting Depth
needed:
If the
Z Origin
is set on top of the material or on top of the mat (the difference in
CD
can be as much as
45 with vinyl because the backing sheet is so much thicker than the vinyl)
If the material is on a mat or directly loaded into the Force
If the backing sheet is removed first before placing on the mat (this is common with rhinestone template
materials)
•
In the recommended settings table at the end of Chapter 2, you will find separate settings for cutting rolled
materials (such as vinyl or rhinestone template material), both on a mat or without using a mat. The
Cutting
Depth
settings for those reflect this difference.
D2 Calculation of Depths in Multi-Pass Applications
•
Multi-pass Depth Increase
is defined as how much deeper the tool will attempt to move, starting after the
first pass. It is a linear calculation based on the
Starting Depth
,
Ending Depth
and the number of
Passes
:
Multi-Pass Depth Increase
= (
Ending Depth
–
Starting Depth
) / (
Passes
– 1)
•
For example, if
Starting Depth
= 100 and
Ending Depth
= 200, then the target depths for each pass would
be:

3 Passes

D3 Mat Guides
•
Ricardo Bernardino first posted his design file for mat guides on June 21, 2016. He shared the design file
with KNK USA and it was modified slightly and then posted for downloading here:

•
To find a local 3D printing company to print these guides, use this link:
. The least
expensive plastic will work just fine.
•
You can also purchase a set of the mat guides and screws at this link:

•
The mat guides fit into the groove in front of the cutting strip. Two M4 screws (~ 10
– 12 mm long) are then
screwed through the mat guides and into the small nuts already present inside the groove:
