Examples of Cascade Configuration
8.4.2.1
Formation of a Cascade Consisting of Two Standalone Devices
Requirements:
●
Two standalone devices are cabled together in the way described under
ter 8.3, "Connection of a Cascade"
How to transform instruments into standalone devices is described in
ter 8.4.4, "Dissolving Cascade"
on page 861. When the instruments are switched
on, the CASCADE LED on the master instrument does not light up; the CAS-
CADE LED on the slave instrument flashes at a low 50/50 rate, thereby signaling
that the clock lines have been connected correctly. The LAN LED on each instru-
ment remains lit, thereby signaling that the LAN cables have been connected cor-
rectly.
●
It is recommended to connect a screen to the master instrument so that the mea-
surement results can be used to check whether cascading has been successful.
Connection procedure:
The CASCADE LED on the master does not light up. The master is prepared for cas-
cading by briefly pressing the CASCADE/LAN RESET button. The CASCADE LED
now lights up with brief OFF phases, thereby signaling that a slave can now log on at
the master.
Briefly pressing the CASCADE/LAN RESET button on the slave causes the CAS-
CADE LED to signal the current slave number by flashing briefly (Slave Show Status).
One flash indicates number 1, two flashes indicate number 2, and so on.
When a cascade is initially set up, the slave signals number 1.
If the cascade is already set up, the current slave number can be checked in this way.
If the button is then no longer pressed, the slave exits the Slave Show Status mode
automatically after approx. 5 seconds and reverts to its initial state.
If the button is pressed again within this timeout period, the slave is set to program-
ming mode (Prog Mode Slave#x). The CASCADE LED lights up and indicates the pro-
gramming mode with brief OFF phases. One OFF phase indicates number 1, two OFF
phases indicate number 2, and so on. The slave number can be increased by briefly
pressing the button the corresponding number of times. In this example, however, the
slave number is not changed and remains set to 1. If the CASCADE/LAN RESET but-
ton is now not pressed for 30 seconds, this tells the slave to log on at the master with
the set number (here number 1). The master and slave are then automatically connec-
ted to form a cascade, indicated by permanent illumination of the CASCADE LEDs on
the master and slave.
More than 8 measurement results should now be immediately visible in the numeric
display. If too few measurement result lines are displayed, it is recommended to set the
"Max Ch Disp" value in the lower part of the config panel to 16.
