Entering Characters Using Character Map Codes

Characters can be entered using 4-digit character map codes (JIS Kanji code). This
can be useful at certain times, such as when the character you want to insert does not
appear even if you enter the appropriate reading.

Press (special) in the character entry screen.

Select “07.character code” and press (select).

Use to to enter 0707 (4-digit JIS Kanji code).
•
Pressing while entering a 4-digit Kanji code displays a character
assigned to the number nearest to the entered value.

→ Displays “ Д ” of 0705 or “Ë” of 0707

Pressing without entering any Kanji code displays a character assigned
to the last or 1st Kanji code.
•
Pressing and holding down displays Kanji codes and characters in
order. A Kanji code with no character assigned is skipped.
•
When a Kanji code with no character assigned is entered, “not found”
appears.
•
If you make a mistake, use to delete the code and reenter the correct one.

Press (fix).
“Ë” is entered.
•
Kanji characters registered as JIS Level 1 (2965 characters) and Level 2 (3390 characters) are available.
•
If you use JIS Kanji codes to enter characters in the “name” field of a Phonebook entry, the reading is not
automatically entered.
