Infrared Communication
Procedures for infrared communications
Phonebook, Schedule, and other data can be exchanged using movas with an
infrared communication capability or infrared communication devices. You can send
and receive single or all infrared data.
•
You can also execute i-
α
ppli to receive i-
α
ppli start data from the infrared communication
devices with an i-
α
ppli start function.

Aim your mova at the infrared port on the other D506i
•
Do not place any object between the 2 D506i terminals.
•
During infrared communication, place both phones within
20 cm from each other.
•
Keep your mova aimed at the infrared port on the other
mova and do not move away until data exchange is
completed.
•
Procedures for infrared communications between 2 D506i terminals are given in the following
examples:
•
Communications may not be performed normally in the following locations:
•
When exposed to direct sunlight or light from fluorescent tubes
•
Where infrared communication devices such as TVs, video remote controls, or noise generating
equipment is placed
•
The D506i is a Class 1 laser product using infrared communication. “Class 1” defines a class of products
that are regarded as safe by JIS (the Japanese Industrial Standard).
•
The D506i infrared communication function conforms to IrMC version 1.1. Note, however, that even if the
other party’s device supports this version, it still may not be possible to exchange data depending on the
application.
•
The phone may affect other infrared communication devices. Take care to not interfere with
communications between other devices.
•
Infrared communication is not available in the following cases:
•
During a call
•
While Self Mode is set
•
During using the infrared remote control function
•
appears on the main display and Inspiration window during infrared communication. During it, since the
phone operates in the same way as when it is outside the service area. So phone calls, i-mode
communication, and data communication cannot be used. However, emergency phone numbers such as
110, 119, and 118 can still be used. When infrared communication is started from an i-
α
ppli application,
making and receiving calls from external devices and other functions can be performed (see p.446).
•
When the set time for starting the following functions is reached during infrared communication, these are
activated after ending infrared communication:
•
Auto Power Off
•
Easy Timer
•
Alarm
•
Schedule
•
Anniversary
•
If the other party uses an infrared communication device other than the D506i, data may not be exchanged
correctly. Also, single-byte katakana, pictographs, and certain double-byte symbols such as “
” and “
”
may not be correctly displayed on the receiving side.
•
When received data contains characters that cannot be displayed on the D506i, they are replaced with a
blank or simply eliminated.
•
Communication cannot be performed with DDLink (simple infrared communication) - compatible devices
(D208, D209i, or D502i).
