Explanation

This function extracts a character string of a desired length (number of characters)

from the character string specified by <

character string expression

specifies the character where the extraction is to begin, and <

expression 2

the number of characters to be extracted.

An error will occur if the <

expression 1

> and <

expression 2

> values violate the

permissible value ranges.

If <

expression 2

> is omitted, or if the number of characters to the right of the

character of <

expression 1

> is less than the value of <

expression 2

>, then all

characters to the right of the character specified by <

expression 1

> will be extracted.

If <

> is longer than the character string, the exracted value will be a null

string (empty character string).
