The source voltage (20V) is applied across the voltage divider comprised
of the contact assembly and the internal resistor (75 Ohm). This voltage
divider determines the contact voltage signal, which depends on the
status of the contact assembly. The contact voltage signal is compared
with a scaled replica of the source voltage. The output of the comparator
depends on the relationship between inputs, as shown on Figure A.23.
Figure A.23 Voltage Comparator Output
Figure A.24 shows how changing the contact assembly status (both open,
Main Contact open-resistor switch closed, both closed) changes the
contact voltage signal applied to the input 1 of the comparators, which
results in different combinations of the outputs. These different
combinations of output signals are further interpreted to assign a
corresponding status to the contact assembly.
