REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

Remove the engine - gearbox assembly (see 10A ,

Position the engine on the component support
(see Engine support equipment: Use ) .

Drain the engine (see 10A , Engine and cylinder

Remove:
- the accessories belt (see 11A , Top and front of
engine , Accessories belt: Removal - Refitting ,
page 11A-13 ) ,
- the coolant pump (see 19A , Cooling , Coolant
pump: Removal - Refitting , page 19A-66 ) .

Fit the flywheel locking tool (Mot. 1431) onto the cyl-
inder block.

Remove:
- the crankshaft accessories pulley (see 11A , Top
and front of engine , Crankshaft accessories
pulley: Removal - Refitting , page 11A-33 ) ,
- the flywheel locking tool (Mot. 1431) ,
- the crankshaft seal on the timing side (see 10A ,
Engine and cylinder block assembly , Crank-
shaft seal on timing end: Removal - Refitting ,
page 10A-134 ) ,
- the timing chain (see 11A , Top and front of en-
gine , Timing chain: Removal - Refitting , page
11A-88 ) .

Remove the exhaust gas pressure sensor (see 19B ,
Exhaust , Exhaust gas pressure sensor: Removal

Remove:
- the vacuum pump (see Vacuum pump: Removal
- Refitting ) ,
- the high pressure pipe between the pump and the
rail (see 13B , Diesel injection , High pressure
pipe between pump and rail: Removal - Refit-
ting

Mot. 1431 Flywheel locking tool.
Mot. 1766 Top dead centre locating pin.

WARNING
It is strictly forbidden to apply any pressure to the
engine oil sump. Damage to the sump may also
damage the engine by:
- blocking the strainer,
- raising the oil level above maximum, with a risk
of engine racing.
