Catalytic pre-converter: Removal - Refitting

REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
a
Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting ) (02A, Lifting equipment).
a
Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Re-
fitting ) (80A, Battery).
a
Remove:
- the engine cover,
- the air filter unit (see 12A , Fuel mixture , Air filter
unit: Removal - Refitting , page 12A-13 ) ,
- the engine undertray bolts,
- the engine undertray,
- the front wheels (see Wheel: Removal - Refitting )
(35A, Wheels and tyres),
- the front wheel arch liners (see Front wheel arch
liner: Removal - Refitting ) (55A, Exterior protec-
tion),
- the front bumper (see Front bumper: Removal -
Refitting ) (55A, Exterior protection),
- the front right-hand wheel driveshaft (see Front
right-hand driveshaft: Removal - Refitting )
(29A, Driveshafts).

Drain the cooling system (see 19A , Cooling , Cool-
ing system: Draining - Refilling , page 19A-16 ) .
Special tooling required
Mot. 1448 Remote operation pliers for
hose clips.
Tightening torques

new catalytic pre-con-
verter studs on the tur-
bocharger 21 N.m
new catalytic pre-con-
verter nuts on the con-
necting hose 21 N.m
exhaust diesel injector
cooler nuts 21 N.m
catalytic pre-converter
studs on the turbo-
charger 21 N.m
studs of the turbo-
charger heat shield, if
they were loosened dur-
ing the removal opera-
tion 13 N.m
studs of the catalytic
pre-converter stay on
the cylinder block and
on the gearbox 8 N.m
catalytic pre-converter
upper stay nut 21 N.m
nuts of the lower stay on
the upper bracket 21 N.m
nuts of the lower stay on
the cylinder block and
on the gearbox 21 N.m
lower stay nuts on the
catalytic pre-converter 21 N.m
turbocharger heat shield
nuts 8 N.m
