EXHAUST
Catalytic pre-converter: Removal - Refitting
M9R, and 802 or 805 or 806 or 808 or 809 or 816

- the catalytic pre-converter half-clips ( 8 ) .

Move the catalytic pre-converter to the right side of
the vehicle to access the mounting half-clip bolts on
the cylinder block.
a
Remove:
- the mounting half-clip bolts on the cylinder block,
- the mounting half-clips.
a
Move the engine towards the front of the vehicle us-
ing a lever.
a
Turn the catalytic pre-converter back by 180˚ to re-
move it.
a
Remove:
- the catalytic pre-converter,
- the catalytic pre-converter seal,
- the turbocharger studs using a roller-type stud re-
moval tool .
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a
Using SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair ) (04B, Consuma-
bles - Products), clean and degrease the bearing fa-
ces of:
- of the turbocharger,
- on the exhaust pipe,
- of the catalytic pre-converter if reused.
a
parts always to be replaced: catalytic converter
stud on the turbocharger (if loosened) (10,09,01,
04)
parts always to be replaced: Catalytic converter
nut (10,08,02,16)
parts always to be replaced: seal between turbo-
charger and catalytic converter (10,09,01,08)
parts always to be replaced: seal between cata-
lytic converter and exhaust downpipe hose (10,
08,02,21)
parts always to be replaced: clip between turbo-
charger and catalytic converter (10,09,01,10)
parts always to be replaced: exhaust downpipe
hose stud on the catalytic converter (if loos-
ened) (10,08,02,15)
a
Refit new studs on the turbocharger.
a
Torque tighten the turbocharger studs15 (N.m) .
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a
Move the engine towards the front of the vehicle us-
ing a lever.
a
Fit:
- a new catalytic pre-converter seal on the turbo-
charger,
- the catalytic pre-converter in the engine compart-
ment, inserting the lower section first.
a
Turn the catalytic pre-converter over once in the en-
gine compartment.
a
Refit:
- new mounting half-clips,
- the mounting half-clip bolts.
