REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION

Use SUPER CLEANING AGENT FOR JOINT FA-
CES (see Vehicle: Parts and consumables for
the repair ) (04B, Consumables - Products) to clean
the gasket faces:
- of the timing cover,
- of the inner timing cover,
- of the caps of camshaft bearing no.1,
- of the camshaft dephaser covers.

Remove the residue using a plastic spatula.
a
Finish cleaning using GREY ABRASIVE PADS , part
number 77 01 405 943 .

Use a SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair ) (04B, Consuma-
bles - Products) to clean the joint faces:
- of the timing cover,
- of the inner timing cover,
- of the caps of camshaft bearing no.1,
- of the camshaft dephaser covers.
a
Parts always to be replaced:
- primary timing chain,
- secondary timing chains,
- primary chain hydraulic tensioner,
- bolts of the primary chain hydraulic tensioner,
- secondary chain hydraulic tensioners,
- bolts of the secondary chain hydraulic tensioners,
- upper guide of the primary chain,
- bolts of the upper guide of the primary chain,
- primary chain tensioner guide,
- bolts of the primary chain tensioner guide,
- crankshaft sprocket,
- camshaft dephaser cover seals,
- camshaft dephaser cover O-rings,
- camshaft bearing cap O-rings.
II - REFITTING THE TIMING CHAIN

Refit a new crankshaft sprocket.
a
Check that the collet ( 12 ) of the crankshaft is aligned
with the mark ( 13 ) on the oil pump.
WARNING
Do not scrape the joint faces of the aluminium,
any damage caused to the joint face will result in
a risk of leaks.

WARNING
To ensure proper sealing, the gasket surfaces
must be clean, dry and not greasy (avoid any fin-
ger marks).
