8.5 Performance characteristics test

1) Connect the test instrument as shown in Fig. 8.18 and connect the signal output interface of the
synthesized signal generator to the signal input interface of the 4051 analyzer.
Set the signal generator as follows:
Frequency 1 GHz
Amplitude 0 dBm
2) Reset the 4051 analyzer and set the center frequency as 1 GHz and the frequency span as 100 kHz.
3) Reduce the frequency span of the 4051 analyzer to display the signal in the center of the screen and finally
lower it to 200 Hz.
4) Adjust the amplitude of the synthesized signal generator to display the signal peak at the reference level.
5) Set the 4051 analyzer as Peak Search, turn on Nose Marker and Marker Delta functions and execute
Video Average for 10 times and Single Sweep.
6) After single measurement, read the amplitude difference of the noise marker at 100 Hz and -100 Hz
frequency offsets as the noise level at +100 Hz and -100 Hz frequency offset respectively and record them
in the 4051 Record Sheet.

7) Set the 4051 analyzer as Continuous Sweep.
8) Set the frequency span of the 4051 analyzer as 2 kHz, 20 kHz and 200 kHz, repeat step 5 ~ 7 and test the
noise level at ±1 kHz, ±10 kHz and ±100 kHz frequency offset.
