N8487A/R&sZ61 is recommended for the power sensor.
RF directional coupler
MMW directional coupler
c)
Test steps
Gain compression (10 MHz ~ 40 MHz)
1)
The power meter is zeroed and calibrated.
2)
Reset 4051 and set the center frequency as 30 MHz, the frequency span as 1 kHz, the reference level as -
20 dBm, the display scale as 1 dB/division and the attenuator as 0 dB.
3)
Set the frequency of synthesized signal generator#1 and #2 as 33 MHz and 30 MHz respectively, the
power output as -10 dBm and the output of synthesized signal generator#2 as off.
4)
Connect the instrument according to solid lines in Fig. 8.13 with the output of the RF direction couple
connected via the adapter to the power sensor.
5)
Set the test frequency of the power meter as the output frequency of synthesized signal generator#1.
Adjust the output power level of signal generator#1 to change current power meter reading to the mixer
level of current test section under 1 dB gain compression and turn off the output of signal generator#1.
6)
Change the connections in the test according to dotted lines in Fig. 8.13, turn on the output of synthesized
signal generator #2 and adjust the power level of synthesized signal generator #2 to display the signal
peak 2 ~3 divisions under the 4051 reference level.
7)
Execute Peak Search and turn on Marker Delta.
8)
Turn on the output of synthesized signal generator#1. Read out the absolute value of current marker
difference amplitude. If such value is lower than 1 dB, it should be recorded in the 4051 Record Sheet.
Otherwise, it will be considered as noncompliant.
9)
Turn off the output of synthesized signal generator#1.
Gain compression (40MHz ~ 200MHz)
10)
Connect the instrument according to solid lines in Fig. 8.13. Set the center frequency of the 4051 analyzer
as 100 MHz, the frequency of synthesized signal generator#1 as 103 MHz and the frequency of
synthesized signal generator#2 as 100 MHz.
11)
Repeat step 5 ~ 8.
12)
Turn off the output of synthesized signal generator#1.
Gain compression (200MHz ~ 4GHz)
13)
Connect the instrument according to solid lines in Fig. 8.13. Set the center frequency of the 4051 analyzer
as 200 MHz, the frequency of synthesized signal generator#1 as 2.003 GHz and the frequency of
synthesized signal generator#2 as 2 GHz.
14)
Set the power meter frequency as 2GHz.
15)
Repeat step 5 ~ 8.
16)
Turn off the output of synthesized signal generator#1.
Gain compression (4GHz ~ 9GHz)
17)
Connect the instrument according to solid lines in Fig. 8.13. Set the center frequency of the 4051 analyzer
as 5 GHz, the frequency of synthesized signal generator#1 as 5.003 GHz and the frequency of synthesized
signal generator#2 as 5 GHz.
18)
Use the MMW directional coupler to replace the RF directional coupler.
19)
Repeat step 5 ~ 8.
