1. Manual Guide
This chapter describes the functions, chapter composition and main contents of the User Manual of 4051
Series Signal/Spectrum analyzer, and the instrument-related documents for the user.


1.1 About the Manual
In the Manual, basic functions and operating methods of the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer are
introduced. Including instrument characteristics, basic operating methods, measurement configuration
operating manual, menus, remote control, maintenance, specifications and test methods to help you rapidly get
familiar with and understand key points of the instrument operation method and use. For the convenience of
operation, please carefully read the manual before operating the instrument, and properly operating it
according to the guidance in the manual.
The user manual includes the following chapters.
● Overview
It provides an overview of main performance features and typical application of the 4051 Series Signal
Analyzer and safety guidelines for instrument operations. It helps users get to know main performance
features of the instrument and guide them to operate it.
● Introduction to Use
In this chapter, inspections before use, instrument navigation, basic measurement methods and data
management of the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer are explained to help users get to understand the
instrument itself and measurement procedure and lay foundation for subsequent detailed introduction of the
instrument measurement operating manual. Contents in this chapter are consistent with chapters in the Quick
Start Guide.
● Operation Manual
It introduces in details operations of measurement functions of the instrument, including instrument
configuration, measurement process initiation and obtaining measurement results. It mainly includes two parts:
function operation manual and advanced operation manual. The functions operation manual introduce and
exemplify each setting in a systematic and detail manner for users not familiar w
ith operating methods of the analyzer to help them understand and grasp basic usages of the Series Signal
Analyzer, including setting of frequency, span and marker. The advanced operation guidance introduces
complicated test procedures, advanced using technI/Ques and guidelines of measurement implementation with
users having the basic knowledge of the use of 4051 Series Series Signal Analyzer but unfamiliar with some
special operations as target readers. Including multi-signal measurement, distortion measurement, noise
measurement, modulation signal measurement and power kit measurement.

Menu
This chapter describes the menu structure and items according to functional categories to facilitate query and
reference.
● Remote control
This section outlines the remote control of the instrument, so that the user can rapidly get to know how to
remotely control the instrument. It is divided into four sections: the program control basics describe the
concepts related to program control, software configuration, program-controlled port, SCPI commands, etc.;
instrument port configuration describes the connection and software configuration of the program-controlled
port of 4051 Series Signal Analyzer; basic programming of VISA interface provides an example of basic
programming with text illustration and example codes, so that the user can rapidly get to know the
