4.1 Function operation guide
This section mainly introduces operating methods related to measurement modes, setting of common
measurement parameters and analysis display of the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer.
4.1.1 Introduction of measurement modes and functions
This section mainly introduces major measurement modes and their main purposes of the 4051 Series
Signal/Spectrum Analyzer. The Series Signal Analyzer has two measurement modes with standard
configuration: spectrum analysis mode and I/Q analysis mode (I/Q analysis mode is not available for 4051-S
series). Users may select measurement mode via

key on the front panel. Please refer to relevant
software option user manual for more information of measurement mode options. Each measurement mode of
the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer may contain several measurement functions and in the selected
mode, specific measurement functions can be selected via

key on the front panel.
4.1.1.1 Spectrum analysis mode
The spectrum analysis mode is one regular general spectrum analysis and measurement environment and has
very flexible spectrum analysis ability, which includes the traditional swept spectrum analysis and FFT
spectrum analysis; in addition, the spectrum analysis has the signal spectrum peak search, marker function and
various trace detectors and trace processing abilities, which enables the user to search and measure different
types of signals conveniently.
The spectrum analysis mode can be accessed by activating the [Spectrum] menu through the

on the front panel.
Moreover, the spectrum analysis mode also provides the one-key measurement function for the some special
types of signals and common measurement applications. For these measurement functions, the 4051 Series
Signal/Spectrum Analyzer pre-configure the measurement parameters of analyzer, which significantly reduces
the complicated and trivial measurement setting operations for the user, thus enabling the user to carry out
measurement conveniently. For the features of analyzer, the one-key measurement function integrates many
measuring algorithms to optimize the measurement results.
Under the spectrum analysis mode, the measurement function can be selected by pressing the

key on the front panel. The one-key measurement functions of 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer include:
Swept Analysis
Channel Power
Occupied Bandwidth
Adjacent Channel Power
Power Statistic
Burst Power
Harmonic Distortion
Three-order Intermodulation
Spurious Emission
