3 Introduction to Use
3.1 Preparations before Operation

b) Start-up/shutdown
I. Start-up
Step 1. Turn the power switch on the rear panel to ―I‖. At such time, the power indicator above the power
switch on the front panel turns yellow and the instrument is in standby mode;
Step 2. Turn on the power switch in the lower left corner of the front panel. The power indicator above the
power switch turns from yellow to green;
Step 3. The user interface on the front panel of the instrument will gradually display the information of
instrument startup: first with the manufacturer information and logo, followed by operating system
options.
There are two options available for selection, but users do not need to choose during normal
operation.
Windows 7 automatically starts after the timer hits 0;
Step 4. After Window 7 is successfully started, the system will automatically initiate the Series Signal
Analyzer and display its main operation interface.
Then the instrument can be operated.

10 MHz time base and warm-up
In case of cold start of the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer (the instrument starts from complete
shutdown), the instrument should be preheated for a while to reach the operating temperature at 10 MHz. If
the instrument is started from standby, no preheating is required. When testing specifications, the instrument
should be preheated for 0.5 h (refer to instructions in the technical specifications for more details).

Attenuator initializing
When entering the host program, there will be noise from attenuator gear setting due to attenuator
initialization. Do not mistake it for a fault in the Series Signal Analyzer.
