Dial plan

Instead of having to dial a complete extension, the multi-location dial plan feature allows a user to dial a
shorted version of the extension. For example, a customer can continue to dial 4567 instead of having to
dial 123-4567.
Communication Manager takes the location prefix and adds those digits to the front of the dialed number.
The switch then analyzes the entire dialed string and routes the call based on the administration on the
Dial Plan Parameters screen.
Prerequisites
Before you can administer the multi-location dial plan feature, the
Multiple Locations
field on the
Optional Features screen must be enabled. To check if this is enabled, use the display system-parameters
customer-options command. The
Multiple Locations
field is on page 3 of the Optional Features screen.
Adding the location prefix to dialed numbers
The Insert Digits field on the Uniform Dial Plan Table screen takes the location prefix from the caller’s
location on the Locations screen. The system adds the location prefix digits to the front of the called
number. The switch then analyzes the entire dialed string and routes the call based on the administration
on the Dial Plan Parameters screen.
•
Non-IP phones and trunks inherit the location number of the hardware they are connected to (for
example, the cabinet, remote office, or media gateway).
•
IP phones indirectly obtain their location number.
— A location number is administered on the Network Region screen that applies to all
phones in that IP region.
— If a location field is left blank on a Network Region screen, an IP phone derives its
location from the cabinet where the CLAN board is that the phone registered through.
— IP trunks obtain their location from the location of its associated signaling group. Either
direct administration (only possible for signaling groups for remote offices), or the ways
described for IP phones, determines the location.
If the location prefix is not administered correctly, calls are not routed correctly. Examples of a location
prefix that is not administered correctly are:

if the prefix is administered with incorrect digits
•
if the Uniform Dial Plan Table screen entry does not match the location prefix length
FACs
The location ars FAC is only accessible for calling numbers at locations administered with that ARS
FAC. If an attempt is made to use an ARS FAC at a location for which it is not valid, the attempt is
denied. The ARS access code on the Feature Access Code (FAC) screen continues to be used when a
location ARS does not exist. If a location ARS FAC exists, then the ARS access code on the Feature
Access Code (FAC) screen is prohibited/denied from that location.
The location attendant code ( Attd FAC ) is only accessible for calling numbers at locations administered
with that Attendant Access Code. This is a new field added for this feature on the Feature Access Code
(FAC) screen. If an attempt is made to use an attendant code at a location for which it is not valid, the
attempt is denied.
