8.7.3.1 Query for Setting Commands
CASCade:ASSignment ALL
Commands addressing a specific channel
are sent from the master – without intervention by the user – to the corresponding
instrument which then returns the unique query response.
Example:
INPut:MCHannel20?
Response: ON
If the cascade has been composed of only 8
‑
channel instruments, this command quer-
ies the 2nd slave and its channel 4.
Commands not addressing a specific channel
Since the option of individual control makes it possible for each instrument in the cas-
cade to have a different setting, a query request in the
CASCade:ASSignment ALL
operating mode must generate a query response that reproduces the different settings.
To satisfy this particularity in the cascading, the query responses of the individual
instruments are connected with "|".
Example:
The cascade consists of a master and 2 slaves.
OUTPut:TYPE?
contains no channel information and, in the
CASCade:ASSignment
ALL
operating mode, is sent by the master to itself and to the two slaves. All instru-
ments respond and the response strings are joined together with "|".
Response: "BAL|BAL|BAL"
The sequence of responses is always "Master|Slave01|Slave02|…"

Query commands that are issued in this operating mode always return only a single
query response. The channel specification for channel
