8.4.2.2
Adding Additional Slaves
The master is again prepared by briefly pressing the CASCADE/LAN RESET button.
The CASCADE LED now lights up with brief OFF phases, thereby signaling that an
additional slave can now log on at the master.
When the button on the slave is pressed briefly, the CASCADE LED indicates the cur-
rent slave number by briefly flashing. Briefly pressing the button sets the slave to pro-
gramming mode, which always begins with the slave number 1; the slave number can
be increased by briefly pressing the button the appropriate number of times. After slave
number 5, numbering begins again with 1. This means that a maximum of 5 slaves can
be combined with a master to form a cascade so that a maximum of 48 channels are
available. The LED indicates the programming mode with brief flashes. If the button is
not pressed for 30 seconds, the slave logs on with this number at the master.
The entire procedure must be repeated if an additional slave is to be logged on.
Important:
If the sequence of the slaves and therefore the numbering of the channels
is fixed, then the slaves must be logged on at the master in exactly this sequence, i.e.
first slave 1, then slave 2 and not vice versa.
8.4.3
Switching Cascade Off and On Again
All instruments in an operationally ready cascade should be switched off using their
standby buttons within 5 minutes of each other; this also applies when switching on the
instruments again.
When switched on, the instruments automatically reconnect to the cascade in exactly
the same instrument arrangement as before they were switched off. During the phase
in which the cascade is set up, the CASCADE LEDs flash rapidly at first and then
remain lit, thereby indicating that the cascade is ready for operation.
8.4.4
Dissolving Cascade
Instruments that have never been operated in a cascade are standalone devices. If
instruments have already been operated in a cascade and are to be set back to the
"standalone slave" state, this is done at a master instrument in the cascade by holding
down the CASCADE/LAN RESET button for longer than 5 seconds until the CAS-
CADE LED goes out. The cascade is then dissolved automatically. The CAS-
CADE LED on each slave begins to flash again in a ratio of 50/50 and the CAS-
CADE LED on the master is off.
Disconnection of the clock line puts a slave instrument in the "standalone device" state
(indicated by an unlit CASCADE LED); this instrument could then be used as a master,
provided that it is a R&S
