8 Cascading
8.1 Overview
If a measurement application requires the synchronous analysis of more than 8 chan-
nels, it is possible to cascade multiple R&S
UPP instruments.
A cascade always consists of an 8
‑
channel master R&S UPP and one or more slave
instruments, which can each be equipped with 2, 4, or 8 channels.
The instruments, arranged in a daisy chain configuration, are provided with a uniform
reference clock signal, which is distributed from the master to all connected slaves.
The communication and transfer of data between the instruments occurs via LAN.
A cascade is set up by manual operation of the "CASCADE" button on the measuring
instruments involved, whereas the instruments are set up using the GUI of the master
or by remote control of the master from a control computer via IEC/IEEE bus or LAN.
8.2 Order Code of Instruments
To assemble a cascade, a master instrument and at least one slave are required.
Master devices can only be 8
‑
channel instruments of the type designation
R&S UPP 800, whereas slaves can be implemented using 8 as well as 4 or 2
‑
channel
instruments in any combination.
Only R&S UPP800 instruments (audio analyzer, 8 channels) with installed software
option R&S UPP
‑
K800 can assume the role of a master device.
The type designations for the 4 and 2
‑
channel variants are R&S UPP 400 or
R&S UPP 200.
