7.1.6.1 Calibration States
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH features several calibration states that it displays in the sta-
tus line. The possible states depend on the calibration type (see below).

(dcal)
The calibration data uses the default calibration. The default calibration is a "Full 1-
port" calibration performed in the factory during production. It is stored in the mem-
ory and can be restored after a preset or self-alignment. Default calibration can
also be performed in the "Instrument Setup " dialog box. See
Chapter 4.2.8, "Per-
forming Default Calibration" , on page 42.

(cal)
The calibration data uses the user calibration. To get in this state, a "Full 1-port " is
performed. See also the
automated calibration .

(norm)
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH is using normalization. To get in this state, the "Easy 1-
port" is performed. Only open connection is performed during the calibration.
7.1.6.2 Calibration Methods
The following user calibration types are available in antenna and cable test mode.
●
Full 1-Port
RF input port is calibrated for measurements on that port. The calibration routine
requires the calibration standards open, short and load to be connected one after
another.
●
Easy 1-Port
RF input port is calibrated for measurements on that port. The calibration proce-
dure requires no calibration standards as the R&S Cable Rider ZPH calibrates an
open connection only.
After a user calibration is perfomed, the R&S Cable Rider ZPH allows you the option to
select applying user calibration (cal or norm) or factory calibration (dcal) data on the
measurement.
1. Press the CAL key.
2. Select the "User Calibration" softkey.
Depending on the current calibration state. the R&S Cable Rider ZPH toggle
between the user calibration (cal or norm) and factory calibration (dcal) state.
Note: The calibration state is displayed on the top right-hand corner on the trace
window. See
Chapter 7.1.6.1, "Calibration States" , on page 110.
Calibration unit, R&S ZN-Z103
Equipped with the calibration kit, R&S ZN-Z103, you can perform an automatic "Full 1-
Port" calibration across the entire frequency range. Unlike the manual calibration, this
calibration unit performs the calibration standard open, short and load to RF input of
the R&S Cable Rider ZPH without making any connection change during the calibra-
tion procedure.
