5.4 Sequential Injection of Samples
When you inject multiple samples into a cuvette to use, for
example, matrix modifiers for a single measurement, the first
sample is aspirated by the autosampler nozzle, followed by the
next sample by the force of air. After the samples are aspirated,
all the samples are injected into the cuvette. You can save the
measurement time as the sample pipetting time is faster than the
measurement with no sequential injection. You can improve the
mixture of samples and matrix modifiers because of the strong
discharging pressure by using this function including the matrix
modifiers. Thus, you can reduce the volume of the matrix
modifiers compared with the measurement with no sequential
injection. You can also expect the similar effect by reducing the
concentration.
(1) Click [Autosampler] button on the Analytical Conditions
Setting window to display the Autosampler window.
(2) Double-click [Inject sampler] tab to display the Sample
Injection window.
(3) Set the “Sequential injection” to “Yes” in the sequential
injection field on the window. Mark the “Nozzle cleaning
time” and set the number of seconds so that the nozzle is
rinsed for the time configured to clean the outer wall.

Cleaning nozzle
If you don’t clean the nozzle in the sequential injection, the
next sample is collected while the sample collected remains
attached to the outer wall of the nozzle. Thus, the second
samples onward are mixed with the previous samples,
causing contamination. Clean the nozzle as much as possible
to reduce the contamination.
