1.4 Graphite Cuvette Installation

(2) Check if the taper part of the electrode ring (the part which

contacts with the cuvette) is tainted or not. If tainted, clean
the part by using cleaning paper. Poor contact between the
electrode ring and the cuvette may hamper normal electric
current flow, causing some errors.

(3) Hold the graphite cuvette with the furnished tweezers.

(4) Turn to the left the electrode-moving lever at the left as

seen from the front for expanding the space between
electrodes.

(5) Place the graphite cuvette between the electrodes so that

its injection port faces straight up. While returning the
lever to the right position, mount the cuvette so that both
ends come in close contact with the tapered area of
electrode rings.

NOTES

: 1. There is a danger of burns upon touching heated

parts. The graphite atomizer is at a very high
temperature. Before replacing the cuvette or ring,
wait for over 10 minutes until the cover of the
graphite furnace and the cuvette, etc. cool down.
Open the lid of graphite atomizer unit, holding its
white resin part.

2.

Be sure to mount the graphite cuvette so that its
injection port faces straight up.

3.

Since a large current (about 400 A max.) flows
through the furnace, the graphite cuvette must be
brought into close contact with the electrode rings
securely.

4.

Be sure to check if the part which contacts with the
cuvette of the electrode ring is tainted or not when
mounting a cuvette. Performing measurement with
any taint may cause contact failure, resulting in
abnormal temperature or shorter service life of the
cuvette.
