3.7 Cleaning of Graphite Cuvette
Before measurement, clean the graphite cuvette by heating it at
the maximum temperature. Set the monitor graph display mode
to “Always” and check that a peak signal does not occur during
heating (the baseline does not change). Refer to 3.10.3
“Signal/Display Scale” in Chapter 3 for the display mode.
(1) Make sure the lid of atomizer unit is closed, and then click
the [Maximum Heating] button on the toolbar.
(2) The Maximum Heating dialog box appears. Input a
heating time and click the [OK] button. Set the heating time
to 5 to 20 s (5 to 10 s for Pyro Tube C HR and Pyro Tube D
HR). A heating time of 5 to 10 seconds is usually adequate
for any graphite cuvettes.

(3) Maximum heating of the graphite cuvette (2800
C; 3000°C
for Pyro Tube C HR and PyroTube D HR) starts and
“Maximum Heating...” is displayed on the status field.
(4) On completion of maximum heating, “Ready” is displayed
on the status field.
NOTES
: 1. If a peak occurs, clean the cuvette a few times. If
a peak occurs immediately after maximum heating,
the likely cause is the cuvette. If the absorbance
increases as the cuvette is heated, the likely
cause is contamination of the ring electrode.
Replace consumable parts if no improvement is
observed.
