Checking the availability of the FTP, SFTP, or SCP server for
backing up data
During the installation and upgrade procedures, you must back up the system data to an FTP,
SFTP, or SCP server. You use a server on the customer’s LAN for backups. A current version of
the system data is required to restore the system configuration upon completion of the upgrade.

Check with your project manager or the customer for the following information about the
FTP, SFTP, or SCP server.
- Login ID and password
- IP address
- Directory path on the FTP/SFTP/SCP server

Before going to the customer site, make sure that you can use a customer server
over the LAN for backups.
Obtaining S8300 software and G700 firmware
The files containing the software for the S8300 and the G700 and media module firmware are
on the Communication Manager Software Distribution CD-ROM that you take to the site. This
CD is called the software CD because it contains software for all of the Linux servers.
Additional files that may be needed are:

License file
●
Authentication file
●
Software service pack files (most recent version)
●
Security update files
●
G700 firmware file (most recent version)
Checking the CD for the most recent firmware files
The firmware on the Communication Manager software distribution CD may not be the most
recent. Therefore, check the firmware versions contained on the software CD to verify that you
have the latest before installing the firmware using the LSP’s TFTP server. You can do this by
accessing the CD on your laptop and displaying the actual firmware filenames in the Releases\
<
release_number>\Gateways directory.
