3. SDH/SONET analyzer

The required transmission rate depends on the optical circuit packs used within the
ring. The optical circuit pack with the lowest transmission rate determines the
transmission rate which should be used for the test. For example, if OP2G5, OP10
and OP40 circuit packs are used, an STM-16/OC-48 transmission signal is required.

4. ESD Wrist Strap.

Prerequisites

Prior to performing this task, you must have done the following:

1. Set up the 2-fiber MS-SPRing/BLSR test (see section

“2-fiber MS-SPRing/BLSR

test setup” (p. 10-29)

).

2. Logged in to

WaveStar

®

CIT as Super User (see chapter 5, section

“Starting the

WaveStar

®

CIT application” (p. 5-18)

) if

WaveStar

®

CIT User Login has been

enabled during

WaveStar

®

CIT installation.

Automatic ring switching

Proceed as follows to test the automatic MS-SPRing/BLSR ring switching:

Start a signal transmission via the SDH/SONET analyzer.

Result:

No bit errors are present.

Remove the fiber connection between NE-A and NE-B.

Result:

An immediate switch to the “Protection” path is caused (a short traffic

interruption of about 15 ms can be observed)
