Before starting a signal transmission check that the optical output power of the
SDH/SONET analyzer is not too high. The allowed power input ranges for all optical
circuit packs are given in
Table 10-1, “Power input ranges of the optical circuit packs”
(p. 10-8) .

Start a signal transmission via the SDH/SONET analyzer.
Result:
No bit errors are present.

Unlock the latches of the active XC unit (is indicated by the “Active” LED). In the
following it will be called “XC unit (active)”.
Result:
The standby XC unit becomes active (is marked with “(A)” in the
WaveStar

CIT
System View
) and a short traffic interruption of about 15 ms is
caused.
The LED behavior is as follows:
•
The “Fault” LED on the “XC unit (active)” is illuminated.
•
The “Fault” LEDs on all I/O packs and the active CTL flash.
•
The “Active” LED on the standby XC unit is illuminated.
Troubleshooting: If the conditions described above cannot be observed, refer to
appendix A, section “XC protection test failure” (p. A-11) .

Re-insert the “XC unit (active)”.
Result:
The LED behavior on the re-inserted XC unit is as follows:
1. The “Fault” LED is illuminated.
2. The “Active” LED flashes.
3. The “Active” LED and the “Fault” LED are extinguished.
4. The “Active” LED flashes.
5. The “Active” LED and the “Fault” LED are extinguished.
