DS3 protection test
Important! This test should only be performed if DS3 1+1 equipment protection is
used. Make sure that the configuration rules given in chapter 5, section “DS3/EC1
equipment protection rules” (p. 5-41) are fulfilled for the DS3 port unit
(EP51/EL36) to which the transmission analyzer is connected (via the associated
ECI51/MP72 paddle board).
Prerequisite: Cross-connections must be established as
it was done during the “DS3 transmission test” (p. 8-24) .
Proceed as follows to perform the DS3 protection test:

Result:
The
Create New Protection Group
window appears. Initially, the
right-hand part of the window is empty, the left-hand part contains an equipment
selection tree.

Shelf 1 (DUR)
from the
Ptn Grp
tab, and click
Select I/O Shelf

Result:
The right-hand part of the window is populated.

From the
Protection Type
drop-down list box, select
1+1 Equipment EP51 (DS3)

Result:
The elements displayed on the right-hand part of the
Create New
Protection Group window are adapted to that protection type.

Enter the last two digits of the desired protection group identifier (
Protection Group
AID ) into the text input field next to 1-1-eep .
NOTE: The
Protection Group AID
(access identifier) represents the protection group
in which the protection switch will occur. The protection group identifiers must be
unique for each type of protection.

Select the working DS3 port unit from the
Working Pack
drop-down list box.
Result: The Protection Pack drop-down list box is automatically adapted to take
account of the fact that the two DS3 port units of an equipment protection group
need to be installed in two adjacent slots.
