Use the
Rotation
setting in
X-Ray and Motor Controller
to rotate the ball 180°, then rotate the
ball again 180° (so the ball rotates 360°). Watch as the ball is rotating to ensure that the tip of
the Precision Dial Indicator is touching the ball at all points of rotation and that it is not pegged.
Re-zero the Dial Indicator, if necessary.
Centre the Ball:
8.
Use the
Rotation
setting to rotate the ball 180°.
9.
Watch the Precision Dial Indicator as the ball rotates. Note the reading of the Precision Dial
Indicator after 180° of rotation (e.g. .0004").
The objective is to adjust the ball so that, after the adjustment, the Dial Indicator reads half of
the original reading (e.g. .0002").
To do this:
10. Use the tool’s adjustment key to carefully turn the 2 adjustment screws that are aligned with
the Dial Indicator - turn the screws until the Dial Indicator reads half of the original reading.

The tool is extremely delicate. Fine
adjustments are required. DO NOT
overtighten the screws. One screw
turns clockwise and the other turns
counter clockwise. Turn the screws in
tandem using as little torque as
possible (i.e. 5° at a time).
11. Once adjusted, rotate the ball 180°
and check the Dial Indicator reading. It
should match the reading taken after
the adjustment in the previous step
(e.g. .0002").
12. Re-zero the Dial Indicator.
13. Use the rotation setting to rotate the
ball 360° (rotating 180° at a time).
Watch as the ball is rotating to ensure
that the tip of the Precision Dial
Indicator is touching the ball at all
points of rotation and that it is not
pegged. Re-zero the Dial Indicator, if
necessary.
14. Rotate the ball 180° and confirm the
Dial Indicator reads zero.
15. Rotate the ball 90°.

16. Carefully adjust the 2 screws that are aligned with the Dial Indicator until the Dial Indicator
reads zero.
17. Rotate the ball 180° and verify that the Dial Indicator still reads zero.
Note:
Fine tuning may be required. Continue to make adjustments until the ball can rotate 360°
without the Dial Indicator reading moving more than .0002".
