Managing Files
The process of acquiring data files, correcting them, and constructing volumetric data files
sometimes creates thousands of files.
The following will explain:
• where applications are kept
• what file types are created by the scanning and reconstruction processes
• strategies for minimizing the amount of hard drive space needed.
2.3.1 File Locations
When the software for the eXplore Locus SP is installed for the first time, the default directories are
as follows.
eXplore Evolver is located in:
C:\Program Files\GE Medical Systems\eXplore Utilities\Evolver.exe
The eXplore Reconstruction Utility is located in:
C:\Program Files\GE Medical Systems\eXplore Utilities ReconInterface.exe
MicroView is located in:
C:\Program Files\GE Healthcare\Imaging Applications\Microview.exe
2.3.2 Files Created During the Acquisition Process
PROJECTION FILES
What : Projection files are the files created during the acquisition process. They are in VFF format,
which is an image format that can be read by MicroView. Each file in the scan directory represents
a single projection. If you have used projection averaging, then each file represents the number of
projections that were averaged.
Scan directories can be 100 MB to 12 GB in size, depending on the protocol parameters. Before
starting a scan, be sure there is enough space on the primary data drive.
Where : Each scan is given its own numbered directory. Projection files are found in the
following directory: Storage Drive:\EVS_Data\SubjectName\Scan_001
BRIGHT AND DARK FIELD FILES
What : A single VFF file is created for each of the bright and dark fields. These files are used as
reference points so that outlier correction can take place.
Where : The bright and dark field files are located inside the scan directory.
