Description

The

isync

instruction is context synchronizing. It enforces ordering of all instructions

executed by the processor. It ensures that all instructions preceding

isync

in program order

complete before

isync

completes. Accesses to main memory caused by instructions

preceding the

isync

are not guaranteed to have completed.

Instructions following the

isync

are not started until the

isync

completes execution.

Prefetched instructions are discarded by the execution of

isync

. All instructions following

isync

are executed in the context established by the instructions preceding the

isync

.

does not affect the processor caches.
