Precauzioni
Il catalizzatore per funzionare corretta-
mente deve raggiungere temperature
prossime agli 800 °C e mai inferiori
ai 300 °C. Il valore massimo indicato
non può però essere superato
poiché verrebbe danneggiato
irreparabilmente il catalizzatore.
Occorre dunque che nell'elemento
di post-trattamento dei gas di scarico
non si depositino mai quantità
consistenti di carburante incombusto,
che bruciando farebbero innalzare
vertiginosamente la temperatura.
Per questo motivo l'impianto di
accensione - iniezione deve essere
sempre perfettamente funzionante
(non devono mai avvenire mancate
accensioni). Inoltre è necessario non
spingere mai la moto con chiave di
avviamento e pulsante ENGINE STOP
in posizione ON. In questo caso infatti
se il motore non parte, la benzina
incombusta entra nel sistema di
scarico, depositandosi nei
catalizzatori. Naturalmente con
un sistema di scarico cataliz-zato è
obbligatorio usare solo benzina
senza piombo. Questa sostanza si
depositerebbe infatti sugli elementi
attivi, limitando notevolmente la loro
azione sulle sostanze nocive presenti
nei gas di scarico.
Precautions
To operate correctly, the catalytic
converter has to reach a temperature
approaching 800 °C and in any event
never less than 300 °C. This
temperature, however, should never
be exceeded or the catalytic
converter will be irreparably
damaged. For this reason, significant
quantities of unburnt fuel must never
be deposited in the exhaust gas post-
treatment device, since these would
otherwise burn resulting in a sharp
increase in temperature. This is why
the ignition - injection system
should always be in perfect working
order (misfiring is not acceptable).
Moreover, the motorcycle should
never be pushed with the ignition key
and ENGINE STOP button set to ON.
In this case, in fact, if the engine
fails to start the uncombusted fuel
will enter the exhaust system and
deposit in the catalytic converters.
Motorcycles fitted with catalytic
converters must be used exclusively
with unleaded petrol. Otherwise the
lead content of petrol would deposit
on the activated substances and limit
their action against the harmful
components of exhaust gas.
