Selective Enabling of USCB within a MAC Domain
(page 703) procedure contains more details for those users who
want only specific DOCSIS 3.0 modems to use Upstream Channel Bonding.
The C4/c CMTS supports both dynamic and static creation of US bonding groups at the same time. Any newly-registering
D3.0 modems will register using Multiple Transmit Channel Mode (MTCM) and the C4/c CMTS will use dynamic bonding
group capabilities (if enabled) to determine if the C4/c CMTS configuration allows for bonding in the upstream.
The CMTS supports the extended Upstream frequency range of 5-85 MHz in Release 8.2.5. This capability is evaluated with
TCS selection at registration, and possible CM movement due to US channel overrides in the RNG-RSP message or Dynamic
Channel Changing (DCC). The C4 CMTS will not attempt to move a CM or assign an US channel to a CM using the extended
US frequency range unless the CM supports the extended range. (For additional information, see
(page 920)
Enhanced USCB Scaling
To support the increased per-CAM scaling of upstream-bonding modems, the C4/c CMTS uses the T4 Timeout Multiplier to
increase the T4 Timeout interval in the modem and reduce the frequency of station maintenance ranging polls. Enabling
this feature causes the T4 Timeout Multiplier to take effect on the D3.0 modems that have upstream bonding enabled. For
any given CM, the value of the T4 Timeout Multiplier is equal to the number of channels assigned in the Transmit Channel
Set (TCS) at registration time.
The T4 Multiplier can be enabled or disabled without resetting the modems in order for the multiplier to take effect.
This feature, which can be enabled on a per-MAC domain basis, provides improved scaling of USCB modems for both the
12U and 24U CAMs by counting the USCB modem as a single modem regardless of how many upstream channels are in the
modem’s TCS.
The CLI command to enable this feature is:
configure interface cable-mac <mac> cable upstream ranging-poll t4-multiplier
This feature is disabled by default.
