channel. In order to provide for recovery of the channel, the C4/c CMTS will provide each modem in this state with one
ranging opportunity during every ranging interval for every channel that was determined to be impaired. When the
modem responds to that ranging opportunity and successfully completes ranging on that channel, the C4/c CMTS will then
begin providing transmit opportunities to that modem on that channel again.
Since Release 8.2, a modem is considered in partial service when any in-service upstream channel in the modem’s TCS is
impaired. Only if all channels in that modem’s TCS become impaired, will the modem reset and reattempt registration. In
previous releases, if a modem’s primary channel became impaired, then the modem would reset instead of going into
partial service.
Partial Service Enhancement
Upstream channel bonded modems that registered in partial service are able to recover without resetting the modems.
This feature recovers any upstream channels that were placed in an impaired state after being reported as impaired at
registration or during Dynamic Bonding Change (DBC) load balancing or during recovery from AC power loss.
When the feature is enabled, the C4/c CMTS continues to send one ranging opportunity per interval per channel for any
upstream channels that were reported as impaired. This recovery attempt will continue until either the US channel is
successfully recovered or the modem resets.
In addition, the following apply:
The feature is disabled by default
Only newly registered modems are recovered when the feature is enabled. Modems are not recovered if the feature is
enabled after registration.
When the partial service recovery feature is disabled, modems impaired at registration can be recovered by enabling
the feature and performing UCAM sparing.
Related CLI Commands
The Partial Service Enhancement feature can be enabled or disabled by entering the following command:
configure cable global recover-US-impaired-ack [no]
The [no] option sets the feature to disable.
The
show cable global-settings
command provides output to indicate the current configured status.
