Overview
The Upstream Agility feature is integrated into the C4/c CMTS; it permits a system operator to enable or disable a state
machine for each eligible upstream channel. Upstream Agility defines which upstream channels are eligible, which
frequencies and operating characteristics are defined for each state machine, and, finally, what rules or triggers are used
to cause a channel to transition or hop to another set of upstream characteristics. By default Integrated Upstream Agility is
disabled on all upstream channels within the C4/c CMTS.
The system operator can uniquely define each instantiation of an Upstream Agility state machine. Each state machine has
two or more states. One or more triggers are associated with each state. The first of these triggers to occur will force a
state transition.
By defining various states and intelligent triggers between those states, the system operator can use this feature to modify
upstream channel parameters (center frequency, channel width, and modulation profile) as a function of time or as a
function of signal quality and noise on the cable.
