The CMTS supports cross-MAC Domain dynamic DCC load balancing across all CAM types, including 12U, 24U, 16D and
XDCAMs.
Note: As a requirement for load balancing, any unique Upstream or Downstream channel pair must only be configured
behind a single fiber node.
Restricted Load Balancing Group (RLBG)
Restricted Load Balancing Groups are manually created by specifying the set of upstream and downstream channels that
are part of the RLBG. All channels of an RLBG are a subset of the channels of an existing GLBG.
A Restricted Load Balancing Group may be chosen for :
Restricting designated modems to channels that they are capable of using when other channels in the cable-mac may
exceed their capabilities
Excluding designated modems from periodic load balancing by disabling the policy/rules of the RLBG
Modems are assigned to a load balancing group during modem registration. Any CM that is not assigned to an RLBG will be
placed into the GLBG for its MD-CM-SG if its place in the cable plant topology can be determined.
A modem can be associated with an RLBG using one of the following mechanisms:
1.
Specify the RLBG group number in TLV 43.3 of the CM’s configuration file.
2.
Specify the CM’s RLBG group number via CLI.
3.
Associate a service type with an RLBG and specify that service type in TLV 43.11 of the CM’s configuration file.
4.
Associate a service type with an RLBG and specify that service type for the CM via CLI.
Note: Cross-MAC Domain dynamic DCC load balancing is not supported with Restricted Load Balancing Groups.
