13.14.1 Define CPU Serial Channels in Menu 6.3
XC1000 has external, physical connectors on the main distribution board,
five of which connect internally to four CPU ports. Channel 4 is used for
service and for the primary SMT. Channels 1, 2, and 3 can be configured
for system management or for integration. Table 13-1 shows CPU channels
as they relate to the physical connectors.
The primary SMT port is a data-circuit-terminating-equipment (DCE)
connector. Because J43, J44, and J46 are data-terminal-equipment (DTE)
connectors, a null-modem adapter must be used with the connectors. Any
of these connectors can be used, but the XC1000 can only support one
primary SMT and two secondary SMTs.

To configure ports on the XC1000 main distribution board as secondary
system-manager terminals or as direct RS-232 integrations, select option
3
from menu 6 and press the Enter key. Menu 6.3 appears, similar to
Figure 12-14. The following sections explain how to configure CPU serial
channels.
