ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
5-4
Edition One
XC1000 Service
11. Press the
Ctrl
and
C
keys simultaneously to log off. When finished
with the maintenance terminal,
always
log off. The screen clears and
the cursor moves to the upper left (home) position. This action denies
access to the XC1000 software by unauthorized personnel. If a
backup or upgrade is to be performed, logging off is not necessary.
12. Remove the two printouts from the printer and review them for
possible maintenance action. Refer to Chapter Seven for detailed
information about the status codes in the status log. If no action is
required, file the printouts in the system-maintenance notebook kept
by the system manager. If action is required, refer to Chapter Six,
Troubleshooting.
5.2.2 Interpreting the Alarm-Status Menu (Menu 13.8)
XC1000 alarm conditions are activated by software or hardware malfunc-
tions. The XC1000 updates the alarms every minute. Three major types of
alarms can be set:
-
Non-Service-Affecting (NSA) Alarms
. These alarms warn the system
manager and service personnel of conditions that could degrade service
if not corrected, for example, low message-storage space.
-
Service-Affecting (SA) Alarms
. These alarms alert the system manager
and service personnel about conditions that affect service, for example,
bad-sector alarms on disk drives. Voice messages that are in progress
or stored could be lost. An SA alarm condition can also result in a loss
of data that cannot be recovered.
-
Out-of-Service (OOS) Alarms
. These alarms alert the system manager
and service personnel that XC1000 has shut down and is not processing
messages; for example, there has been a communications-bus failure.
The OOS alarm indicates a CPU, hardware, or software failure. This
alarm does not show in menu 13.8 because, with an OOS alarm, menus
cannot be accessed, as XC1000 has restarted and cannot reboot to the
Main Menu.
For each alarm registered, menu 13.8 (Figure 5-2) displays the following
information:
-
T
designates the type of alarm. In this column, an
S
appears for a
software alarm, and an
H
appears for a hardware alarm. Alarms are
separated into hardware and software categories.
-
Description
represents the description of the actual alarm. Refer to
sections 5.2.2.1 and 5.2.2.2 for alarm descriptions.
-
Alarm
represents the alarm condition. NSA is a non-service-affecting
alarm and SA is a service-affecting alarm. The OOS alarm is never
shown.
-
Date and Time
is when the alarm was registered.
-
Count
represents the number of times the alarm condition has
occurred since the alarm was reset.
