Edition One
XC1000 Service
5. If the old fan is P/N 012–2012–001, remove the hex-socket screws
(Allen screws) that fasten the fan assembly to the XC1000 chassis
(Figure 8-28). Remove the fan assembly.
6. Discard the fan assembly.
8.6.2 Installing the New Fan Assembly
Perform the following steps to install a new fan assembly:
1. Position the fan assembly.
If replacing one of the front fans, position the fan so that the
wire exit on the fan assembly is in the upper-right-hand corner,
when facing the fan, and that the airflow is directed toward the
XC1000.
If replacing one of the rear fans, position the fan so that the
wire exit on the fan assembly is in the lower-right-hand corner,
when facing the fan, and that the air flow is directed away from
the XC1000.
2. Locate the four Allen screws and the four external-tooth lockwashers,
provided in the kit.
3. Place a lockwasher underneath the head of each of the four Allen
screws.
4. Insert the four Allen screws with external-tooth lockwashers into the
four mounting holes in the inner flange of the fan assembly (Figure 8-28).
5. Carefully position the fan assembly against the XC1000 chassis so that
the screws are aligned with the press nuts in the chassis (Figure 8-27).
Be careful not to drop the screws and lockwashers that were inserted
in the previous step.
6. Use the Allen wrench provided in the kit to secure the screws. Use the
in-line holes in the corners of the outer flange to access the screws
(Figure 8-28). Make sure that the fan wire and connector can reach
the power connector on the XC1000 chassis.
7. Tighten all four screws completely.
8.6.3 Reinstalling the Fan Grill
The procedure for replacing the fan grill differs slightly for front fans and
back fans. These two procedures are presented in sections 8.6.3.1 and
8.6.3.2.
