XC1000 Service
3. Insert the four screws with the flat washers into the four outer loops
in the grill and into the outer flange of the fan assembly. Make sure
that only the four outer loops touch the fan assembly.
4. Place one of the nut-retainer brackets behind the outer flange on one
side of the fan assembly, as shown in Figure 8-28. Secure two of the
screws to the nut-retainer bracket.
5. Place the other nut-retainer bracket behind the outer flange on the
other side of the fan assembly. Secure the remaining two screws to
the nut-retainer bracket (Figure 8-28). Make sure that the fan-wire
connector is free from the grill and that it can reach the power
connector on the XC1000 chassis.
6. Tighten all four screws completely.
7. Connect the fan-wire connector to the power connector on the XC1000
chassis. The connectors are keyed to fit properly; do not force the
connection.
8. Make sure that the fan begins to spin and that the air flow is directed
inward at the front of the XC1000.
9. Make sure that the XC1000 alarms turn off. If alarm LEDs are still
lit, contact the Octel Communications Technical Assistance Center.
10. Close the cabinet doors.
8.7 BACKPLANE REPLACEMENT
Replacement procedures for the following backplane components are
detailed in sections 8.7.1 through 8.7.7:
Main distribution board (cabinet 1)
Cabinet 2 distribution board
Optional ACP I/O interface board
Temperature-sensor board
Disk-drive-backplane bus-terminator board
Disk-drive backplane
Main backplane cover
The following tools are required to replace parts on the backplane:
2 flat-blade screwdrivers, small and medium
2 Phillips screwdrivers, numbers 1 and 2

8.7.1 Replacing the Cabinet 1 Distribution Board
The distribution board in cabinet 1 is the primary distribution board for a
dual-cabinet XC1000. For a single-cabinet XC1000, it is the only distribu-
tion board. To replace a faulty distribution board in cabinet 1, perform the
following steps:
