Edition One
XC1000 Service
with each offset consisting of 2 digits, as shown in Figure 7-1. The left digit
is the line number; the right digit is the byte location or column. For
example, an entry at offset 04 is on line 0 and at byte location 4.
7.2.1 The Header
A status-log entry begins with the header, which contains three lines of
information, in English, followed by a 16-byte hexadecimal-notation header
line. The header consists of the date and time, a description of the status
code, a severity message, and the header line. The header line includes the
status code that indicates the reason for the status-log entry.
Figure 7-2 shows a status-log entry with the various parts of the entry noted.
The information shown to the right of the hexadecimal numbers is the ASCII
representation of the bytes displayed on each line of the status-log entry.

Figure 7-2. Example of a Status-Log Entry Showing the Header
and Body Elements.
The date and time shows when the entry was logged. The description allows
system managers and service personnel to make rapid decisions, without
having to interpret hexadecimal codes. The status-code severity message
describes the action to be taken, as follows:
INFORMATION ONLY
. The status-code entry with this message requires
no action on the part of the system manager or service engineer.
MONITOR CLOSELY.
When a status-code entry has this message, a
service engineer should be aware of the message, but does not require
immediate action. It is an advisory of potential problems or situations
that could develop. The service engineer should decode the body of the
entry to identify the specific hardware or circumstances to be monitored.
INVESTIGATE SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT.
This entry requires action by
a service engineer, who should evaluate the status-code entry to determine
the cause of its appearance. Immediate efforts by the service engineer
