4. If the red
INOP
LEDs on each drive are lit, the drives are receiving power
but are not being accessed by the file card. Check the circuit breakers
on the nonhot-plu12-Vdc power supplies. The circuit breakers
are located on the back of the power supplies. Make sure that they are
set to ON. If hot-plug power supplies are installed, check the LED on
the hot-plug power supply. Refer to Chapter Ten for information about
hot-plug power supplies.
5. Turn off the XC1000 power by switching the main-power circuit
breaker to OFF.
6. If only a few of the drives are not operating, try reseating the drive
modules to regain operation. To reseat the drive modules, loosen the
spring screw on the front of each module, and pull the module extractor
down to unseat the module. Slide the module out half way, then push it
back firmly into the logic bay. Push the module extractor up to secure
the module, then tighten the spring screw.
However, if all of the drives are not operating, the +12-Vdc power
supply to the drives is at fault. Make sure that the circuit breakers
on the nonhot-plu12-Vdc power supplies are set to ON, or the
LED is lit on the hot-plu12-Vdc power supplies. Replace
def12-Vdc power supplies.
7. Unseat the drive modules and verify that the drive connectors are not
damaged.
8. Verify that the drive backplane appears undamaged.
9. Turn on power to the XC1000 and then boot the XC1000. Verify that
the yellow
SEL
LEDs on the drive modules flash. If the
SEL
LEDs do
not flash, turn off the XC1000 power again.
10. Verify that the file cards are seated correctly by pushing them into the
logic bay.
11. Turn on and boot the XC1000. The
PWR
LED on the front of each file
card should be lit. If the red
L2
LED is lit, replace the faulty file card.
12. Check any inoperative drive modules. Use the procedures in Chapter
Eight to replace the defective parts of the drive modules.
6.2.1.4
System Manager Terminal (SMT) Problems.
The SMT displays XC1000
diagnostic information about 30 seconds after the XC1000 is turned on.
Perform the following steps to diagnose and correct problems with the SMT:
1. If a display does not appear on the screen, verify that the SMT is
turned on, and adjust the screen-intensity slide switch (located on the
bottom right corner of the monitor).
2. Check the SMT. The following procedure refers only to the HP 700/43
terminal, which is normally shipped by Octel. If another supported
terminal is installed, refer to that terminal manufacturer’s manual.
Perform the following steps to verify SMT operation:
a. Verify that the terminal is turned on and that it is connected to
a 120-Vac power source.
b. Verify that the terminal is connected to the J50 connector on the
main distribution board. If no monitor card is installed, connect
the SMT cable to the J45 connector using a null modem.
