XC1000 Service
System-access number.
(1) Also known as the pilot number, the number that a subscriber
calls to enter the voice processor. This number can be a PBX or Centrex number
that identifies a hunt or distribution group. It can also be a separate, outside
telephone number when the voice processor is directly connected to a CO with a
business line. A voice-processor access number can also refer to a business line
connected to a voice processor scanner-board modem.
System drive
. Octel voice-processing products use disk drives to store and retrieve
data. System-operating software is stored on system drives. Messages are stored
on message drives.

System greeting.
Voice-processor greeting that asks callers to dial the number of the
person they are calling or, if the callers have mailboxes on the voice processor, to
press the
#
key to access their mailboxes.
System manager.
Person responsible for operating and maintaining the voice processor
and its database.
System-manager mailbox.
Special voice-messaging mailbox that offers access to certain
system manager functions; for example, creating and deleting a system broadcast
message, recording a customized opening greeting or voice processor sign-off
message, and recording names for system distribution lists.
System-manager passwords.
The two number sequences entered on the keyboard of
the system-manager terminal to gain access to the system-manager Main Menu
and other system-manager functions. The same number sequences can be entered
on the telephone keypad to allow access to system-manager mailboxes.
System manager terminal.

System phrases.
Consists of phrases that provide a foundation of basic terms such as
numbers, letters, and months used in prompts. These phrases are prerecorded in
the standard system voice and reside on the voice processor.
System shutdown.
The termination of all processes running on the voice processor.
System sign-on.
Greeting heard by callers when they call the voice processor directly
on an interfaced system (assuming that port monitoring is not in use). This is
sometimes referred to as the system greeting.
System utilities.
Menus and prompts that allow certain maintenance functions to be
performed.

AT&T’s standard for 1.544-Mbps digital transmission over twisted pairs.
TAC (Technical Assistance Center).
An Octel Communications location responsible for
providing support to resolve service problems. Service engineers provide telephone
and on-site support for Octel distributors, Octel field engineers, and for those
customers who maintain their own systems.
