ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
5.1 OVERVIEW
The XC1000 requires some routine maintenance to ensure that it functions.
Octel recommends that routine maintenance, which consists of inspection,
cleaning, and monitoring, be performed regularly, as shown in Table 5-1.
This maintenance can be performed with XC1000 in service, except for the
system backup.
Table 5-1. Recommended Frequency of Routine Maintenance.

The tasks shown in Table 5-1 are described in the following sections.
5.2 REVIEWING THE CURRENT ALARM STATUS MENU
AND THE STATUS LOG
Menu 13.8 shows the current alarm status. XC1000 sets alarms when there
are software or hardware malfunctions in the system. The service engineer
or system manager should view, daily, the current alarm status from menu
13.8 and the status log from menu 13.2. These menu options should be
printed weekly and filed in a system-maintenance notebook. Reviewing these
printouts can alert the service engineer or system manager to possible
problems, for example, bad-password disconnects. Save these printouts as
required. At the time of maintenance, view and print out the current alarm
status and the status log. Refer to Chapter Seven for information about the
status codes in the status log.
5.2.1 Printing the Current Alarm Menu and the Status Log
To print the current alarm-status menu and status log, perform the
following steps:
1. Make sure the terminal printer is on-line and has sufficient paper.
2. At the Main Menu, enter
13
to display Menu 13 – System Maintenance,
as shown in Figure 5-1.
