STARTUP AND INITIALIZATION
4.1 OVERVIEW
After the XC1000 has been installed, external cables connected, and internal
switches and connections verified, the XC1000 can be started up and initialized.
Several preliminary steps must be performed before the XC1000 is operational.
The SMT must be powered up and configured before the XC1000 is powered
up for the first time. The SMT enables XC1000’s power-on and boot routines
to be viewed. At the completion of the boot process, XC1000 parameters are
established through menus 0 and 4. The XC1000 is then tested to ensure
correct operation. Figure 4-1 shows the tasks that compose XC1000 startup
and initialization.

4.2 INITIALIZING THE SMT
XC1000 supports several terminals that can function as the primary SMT.
Select the terminal type at first time boot. Normally, Octel configures
XC1000 to operate with the customer’s terminal type before shipment.
However, check the terminal type to ensure that it is accurate, because the
XC1000 will not boot unless the correct terminal type has been established.
XC1000 can operate with four terminal types:
-
Hewlett-Packard (HP) 700/43
-
Wyse 50
-
DEC VT102 or DEC VT220
-
AT&T 4425 or 5425
The HP 700/43 is shipped with the XC1000, unless the customer has
specified one of the alternatives. Instructions for initializing the HP, Wyse,
and DEC terminals with XC1000 are included in this chapter. Refer to AT&T
manuals for the the AT&T 4425 or 5425.
