Do not exert too much pressure when removing and
installing the SIMM; the SIMM or SIMM sockets could
be damaged.
Caution!
4. Using the SIMM extraction tool provided in the kit, insert the round
embossment on the end of the tool head into the hole in the right side of
the first module. Use Figure 12-8 as a reference when removing a SIMM.

5. While pushing down on the positioning pin with the tool, gently lift the
tool handle up and to the right (clockwise, as shown in Figure 12-8),
until the SIMM is partially released.
6. Insert the round embossment on the tool head into the hole in the left
side of the same SIMM.
7. While pushing down on the positioning pin with the tool, gently lift the
tool handle up and to the left (counterclockwise), until the SIMM is
partially released.
8. After both right and left edges of the SIMM have been loosened,
remove the SIMM by lifting it straight up and out. Set it aside. Do
not discard old SIMMs until the XC1000 is powered up and function-
ing properly.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 8 for each of the remaining seven SIMMs.
10. Locate the four SIMM sockets in locations U2D, U3D, U5D, and U6D
(Figure 12-7).
Begin with the SIMM closest to the upper edge of the card (location U2D),
and work toward the middle of the card when installing each new SIMM.
