XC1000 Service
18.4 ENABLE THE ENGINEERING BIT
Call the Octel Technical Assistance Center (TAC) to have the engineering bit
turned on. Be prepared to provide the pilot number of the hunt group
assigned to the XC1000. Wait for confirmation that the engineering bit has
been enabled.
18.5 DETERMINE THE CURRENT BAUD RATE FOR THE
SYSTEM MANAGER TERMINAL
Determine the current XC1000 SMT baud rate before beginning an online
upgrade so that the PC-to-XC1000 connection can be set up correctly.
If the SMT is connected to the SMT-allocated port (J50), the baud rate
is set to 9600.
If the SMT is connected to a flexible port, then the baud rate could be
9600 or 19200.
If you do not know the SMT baud rate, do the following:
1. At the SMT Main Menu prompt, type

2. Type
3
and press
Return
to select option 3 – Define CPU Serial
Channel. Review the baud rate information for the port to which the
SMT is connected. Keep track of the current SMT baud rate for the
XC1000 being upgraded.
3. Press
^C
twice to return to the SMT Main Menu without making
changes.
18.6 VERIFY THE SYSTEM BOOT AREA
Verify the system boot area as follows:
1. At the SMT Main Menu prompt, type

to select
Menu 20 – Service Operations.
2. Type

and press
Return
to select the
Miscellaneous Utilities
option.
3. Type
2
and press
Return
to select the
Set System Boot Area
option.
4. The current
System Boot Area:
and
Drive Next Boot Area:
fields are
displayed, showing software versions of the current
System Boot
Area:
field.
5. If the current
System Boot Area:
and
Drive Next Boot Area:
fields
are redundant, press
^C
three times to return to the SMT Main Menu
without changing anything.
If the boot areas are not redundant, do the following:
a. At
Enter area (A or B):

and press
Return
to make the areas redundant.

Set Boot Area Complete...Press any key to continue

three times to return to the SMT Main Menu.
