RELEASE 3.0 SYSTEM UTILITIES
16-3
Edition One
XC1000 Service
16.2 SOFTWARE DIFFERENCES
The new service-operations utilities accommodate the following software
changes:
System drives have two separate areas (area A and area B) for storing
different versions of software. The contents of areas A and B on a
single drive need not be redundant; however, the contents of area A
on drive 0 must be the same as the contents of area A on drive 1,
and the contents of area B on drive 0 must be the same as the
contents of area B on drive 1.
Phrases are now stored on disk using the same format as messages.
Information is organized on the drives using database files, called
datafiles, instead of records. Therefore, new utilities are available to
access datafiles.
Message addresses are now stored according to the message ID and
scramble code. Therefore, new utilities are available to read messages.
16.3 DRIVE COPY UTILITIES
Use the Drive Copy utilities menu to select utilities for initializing drives;
creating drive backups; copying software, phrases, and system data tables;
making drives redundant; and displaying drive information. Figure 16-2

16.3.1 Initialize Drive
Do not use the Initialize Drive utility unless directed to do
so by Octel. When a drive is installed, it is automatically
initialized. Use of this utility deletes all data currently
residing on the specified drive. Use this utility
only
if the
information on the specified drive is not needed.
Caution!
