(6) Z-Piezo control
If the
Use Z Piezo
check box is inactive the Definite
Focus will execute stabilization via the microscope
stand’s Z-Drive. If the box is checked, the Definite
Focus will control the Z-Piezo stage with the
exception of
Find Surface
that always will use the
stand’s Z-drive (Fig. 162).
Note that the
Use Z Piezo
check box is only
available for systems with a Z-Piezo stage
attached.
The Z-Piezo stage is more precise and faster
than the stand’s Z-Drive and should be the
preferred option when available.
The stand’s Z-drive and the Z-Piezo stage can be
controlled by separate hand wheels. If the Z-Piezo is
moved via its hand wheel its range will not be
centered around the focal position any longer. To
center the range around the focal position you have
to press the
Levelling
button in the
Focus
tool’s
Piezo
area (Fig. 163). The
Piezo Position [µm]
input
box will then be reset to
0
.
Using the stand’s Z-drive hand wheel will only
affect the
Z-Position
input box displayed
values and leaves the
Piezo Position [µm]
input box values unaffected. In contrast, using
the Z-Piezo stage hand wheel will alter both
display values.
The Z-Piezo and the stand’s Z-drive affect the Definite
Focus during
Periodic
stabilization in the following
different ways:
−
Definite Focus controls the Z-Drive (
Use Z
Piezo
inactive): Turning on the
Z-Drive’s hand
wheel
will alter the focus position the Definite
Focus stabilizes on to the set new focus, which
consequently will regulate to the new value.
−
Definite Focus controls the Z-Drive (
Use Z
Piezo
inactive): Turning on the
Z-Piezo’s hand
wheel
will not alter the focus position the
Definite Focus stabilizes on, which
consequently will regulate to the old value.
−
Definite Focus controls the Z-Piezo (
Use Z Piezo
active): Turning on the
Z-Drives’s hand wheel
will not alter the focus position the Definite Focus stabilizes on, which consequently will regulate to
the old value.
