(1) Action buttons
Action buttons are used to execute reflex finding and focus stabilization by the Definite Focus device.
The last used Action button will be indicated by a blue rim.
Action buttons can all be executed during a continuous scan.
(2) Find Surface
When pressing the
Find Surface
button, the
microscope stand’s drive will perform a full range
Z-Scan and the Definite Focus will look for the
strongest reflection signal (Fig. 148). During
operation, the
Find Surface
button stays actively
pressed and the
Status:
line will display a blinking
(fading and appearing)
- Reflex Finder running
-
message in green letters. The Definite Focus will be
adjusted to the highest reflection signal.
Please note that even if the
Use Z Piezo
check box is activated,
Find Surface
will
always use the microscope stand’s Z-drive.
Pressing the
Find Surface
button will
inactivate the
Store Focus
and the
Recall
Focus
buttons (greyed out buttons). Even if
the
Periodic
button stays active, pressing
the button will be ignored during the reflex
finding run. After the run all buttons become
active again.
Once a reflex is found and the Z-Scan stalled the
Status:
line will report
- Reflex found -
in green
letters (Fig. 149).
If the Z-Scan during reflex finding should be aborted, the Find Surface button has to be pressed again
during the operation. This will result in a
Status:
line
- Error -
message in red letters.
The display on the Definite Focus will also show an error message in this case. The Definite Focus,
however, can be used in subsequent operations without the need of a reboot. If the
Status:
line
displays
- Error -
the reason for this error is reported in the error log-file. An error number is also
displayed on the Definite Focus device and can be looked up in the Definite Focus Manual.
If the refractive index mismatch between the immersion medium and glass is low, a reflection might be
too weak to be detected.
